Game Review: Turok For The XBOX 360
Review by Kyra M.
So
you think your tough enough to kill a
T-rex with a knife? Well you
can prove it in Turok for the XBOX 360.
Playing as the infamous Joseph Turok, you and your special forces
crew track down the menacing Rowland Kane, a war criminal that has
taken over a planet much the equivalent of Jurassic park’s Lost
World.
So what’s so wonderful about the this Turok game anyway? First,
you get to kill really nasty dinosaurs. Second, you can do it
with a really Big Knife. And third, with a variety of fire power
from the OSO War Horse mini-gun to the ESUS Fireblade Flame thrower,
which not only singes enemies nearby, but acts as a napalm grenade
launcher taking care of the hoard of enemies coming towards you.
Fourth you can do this on XBOX LIVE with up 16 players creating
total mayhem on this dinosaur infested terrain. (Also the story line
isn’t half bad).

So what’s not so wonderful about the game? Not all of your
opponents are dinosaurs. Oh, and that part about killing the T-Rex
with the knife deal… Not as easy as it sounds.
But lets get back to the seriousness of it all. There are
some aspects which don't quite measure up. The game play is
nothing really new. The environments are a bit murky, and there was
obviously a conscious decision to keep everything an earthy tone,
which is perfect for the game, but gets monotonous and tiring after
a short while. If you like to fully explore a game and wander around
aimlessly, then I’m sorry to say this game is not for you. Though
there may be 2 or three 3 walkways to get to where you want to go,
it does very little to make the game more exciting, and of course
there is the old Door that only exists to spit more enemies at you
as well as the door that simply refuses to open or have a purpose;
SO MUCH FUN! The other thing that is also common from a few
games is the point of view - it seems that your eye level is too low
for a normal person (given the landscape).
In all honesty though Turok isn’t a bad game… its just not living
up to the potential it might have had. But if you are a fan of
the Turok series, you will probably like it! So go get it,
have fun with the T-Rex.
